If you don't quite fully understand or are completely lost as to how to RP in a style such as a forum, (or more specifically, this forum,) this will hopefully bring you some enlightenment.
Basically, the concept is that you follow an order of posting. You start with one person, and go to the next until everyone has posted, and then repeat the sequence. Exceptions being those who are newly joining in the thread. If that's the case, then you should clarify that you are joining with the people of that thread before you post in it, and also find out if they want you to wait until a new cycle of posts so you can join in at the end, or if you are free to join whenever you please.
Secondly, when someone posts an action, their action effect all it's directed to, but only to an extent. No one can forcefully do something to someone without their consent. It must be agreed to by both parties. However, if it's a hit and miss situation, nothing can be avoided 100% of the time. Those who do this are considered to be god-moding.
We encourage fair play, even if it means someone has to get the wrong end of the deal sometimes. But no one is going to win everything in real life, and same goes for the forum.
We also encourage people to let things go wrong once in awhile. You don't go through life without stubbing your toe or tripping over something once. It makes a great idea to spice up the thread. Say you're in a stealth based situation, trying to sneak up on a guard atop a wall. You could just quickly dispatch the guard and go on, but lets just say for the sake of fun he fell and alerted the guards below? Would sure take a bit of a twist, wouldn't you say? Don't be afraid to have a little fun with stuff and have things go wrong when the time is right.
Also, don't make it so your character can be doing impossible things, like scaling a completely flat wall straight up without having some sort of specified ability first. And in the cases where you do something miraculous, don't make it occur constantly. However, there's nothing against amazing achievements and strokes of luck under the right conditions. Just saying basically, keep it to a minimum.
If someone is violating these guidelines, please have them correct it or preferably contact a staff member to have them address the situation. Don't be too assertive, let the staff deal with any problems of this sort if they start getting out of hand. It's our job, and we will deal with it directly, fairly and appropriately to the offense.
